Acadia biologist, Dr. Dave Shutler studies bird nest site choices
Dr. Dave Shutler, NSERC researcj is unravelling aspects of birds’ biology that could have important positive conservation impacts. Using a 15-year data set for tree swallows, he is examining factors that are significant contributors to their reproductive success and survival. He is testing several predictions with respect to nest site and habitat choice, predator communities, frequency and coordination of feeding, and brood value, and his research will have broad interest for others working on critical aspects of Darwinian fitness.
