Submissions are received early in the year and are reviewed by a committee of ARTS members.

Tyler received this award for his thesis titled An Autoethnographic Exploration of My Sexual Identity as seen through Interpretive DanceThe reviewers commented on the depth of Tyler's writing and how he used dance as integral to the research, not as an add-on

"It was a pleasure to work with Tyler as his supervisor for his thesis, and it is also a pleasure to congratulate Tyler for this wonderful recognition of his work," said Dr. John Guiney Yallop. "Thanks go to Dr. Celeste Snowber, of Simon Fraser University, who was the second reader, and Dr. Rebecca Lloyd, University of Ottawa, who was the external examiner. Thanks also go to the School of Education and Acadia University for supporting this kind of creative approach to research."
