Tyler Hall, a recent graduate from the M.Ed. program at Acadia University received on Saturday, May 27, 2017, the Arts Researchers and Teachers Society (ARTS) 2016 Masters Graduate Award. ARTS is a special interest group (SIG) within the Canadian Association for Curriculum Studies (CACS), which is in turn, a constituent association of the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE). 

This award is given annually at the Canadian Society for the Study of Education (CSSE) Conference to a student who defended her/his thesis during the previous calendar year; a Doctoral Graduate Award is also given at that time. Submissions are received early in the year and are reviewed by a committee of ARTS members. 

Tyler received this award for his thesis titled An Autoethnographic Exploration of My Sexual Identity as seen through Interpretive Dance. The reviewers commented on the depth of Tyler's writing and how he used dance as integral to the research, not as an add-on 

"It was a pleasure to work with Tyler as his supervisor for his thesis, and it is also a pleasure to congratulate Tyler for this wonderful recognition of his work," said Dr. John Guiney Yallop. "Thanks go to Dr. Celeste Snowber, of Simon Fraser University, who was the second reader, and Dr. Rebecca Lloyd, University of Ottawa, who was the external examiner. Thanks also go to the School of Education and Acadia University for supporting this kind of creative approach to research."
