Award Recognizes Early Career Mycologist at Acadia

Dr. Allison Walker, Assistant Professor of Biology at Acadia University, was the recent recipient of the Mycological Society of America Martin-Baker Award.  The Martin-Baker Award recognizes a Ph.D. mycologist within the first ten years of their appointment as a faculty member, for the support of new or ongoing research.

Since coming to Acadia in 2014, Dr. Walker has been studying the taxonomy and ecology of fungal endophytes of coastal and marine plants.  Research in the Walker Lab with “Acadia’s Fungal Dream Team” includes field collecting in coastal habitats (seagrass, saltmarsh, intertidal, Acadian forest) and traditional culture-based and microscopic identification of fungi, combined with modern molecular systematic and phylogenetic methods, DNA community fingerprinting, ITS barcoding, qPCR probe design and genomics.

Congratulations Allison!
