Dr. Mark Mallory Inducted to the Royal Society of Canada, College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists

Every year, approximately 80 outstanding scholars, researchers, scientists, and artists are elected to the Academies of the Royal Society of Canada (RSC).  Fellows are chosen by their peers for their outstanding contributions to the humanities, the natural and social sciences, and the arts. On November 22, 2014, Acadia’s own Dr. Mark Mallory, Associate Professor in Biology and Canada Research Chair in Coastal Wetland Ecosystems was inducted to the inaugural cohort of the RSC College of New Scholars, Artists and Scientists.

An avian ecologist, Mark Mallory is widely recognized for his efforts to understand and remediate impacts of global change on coastal biodiversity. His work extends from the Arctic to the Maritimes, where he draws on both scientific and traditional knowledge to explore bird behaviour, marine biodiversity hotspots, environmental change, and the movement of contaminants in food webs. The Royal Society of Canada: The Academies of Arts, Humanities and Sciences of Canada (RSC) was established in 1882 as the senior Canadian collegium of distinguished scholars, artists and scientists. As Canada’s senior National Academy, the RSC exists to promote Canadian research and scholarly accomplishment in both of Canada’s official languages, to mentor young scholars and artists, to recognize academic and artistic excellence, and to advise governments, non-governmental organizations, and Canadians generally on matters of public interest. Institutional Members (IMs) of which Acadia is one, are institutions, from across Canada that are devoted to research.

Congratulations Mark for this well-deserved recognition!
