Some Problems in Graph Theory

Dr. Nancy Clarke is interested in keeping Canada at the forefront of mathematical research. Her specific field of interest is the study of graphs (graph theory).  Graphs make great models, and there are significant practical applications to advancing knowledge in the area of graph theory known as graph searching, including criminal apprehension, building security, tracking users in cellular networks, and solving telecommunications problems related to routing. Another application of Dr. Clarke’s research is network security. Her research in graph searching looks at addressing weaknesses in network security by developing efficient algorithms that are designed to locate viruses so that they can be quarantined before infecting the network.
