“Exercise, the 5th Vital Sign” Poster Competition Winner

Dr. Jonathon Fowles and his student Myles O’Brien, won the Award of Excellence (i.e. first place) for their poster “Exercise, the 5th Vital Sign”. The Poster represents the start of an initiative geared at improving the health and safety of the population.

This project is a collaboration to integrate physical activity monitoring into electronic medical records as part of the ‘Exercise is Medicine- Canada’ initiative.  Dr. Fowles and Dr. Hamilton are working with a Halifax Software company and the Diabetes Care Program of Nova Scotia to further develop the concept into a patient medical record and support platform.  Myles O’Brien will be pilot testing the platform as part of his honours thesis research beginning in the spring/summer of 2015.
