Acadia Masters’ student, Sam Andrews, films the juvenile Alewife run in the Gaspereau River

Canada Research Chair Mike Stokesbury’s student, Sam Andrews, recently recorded this amazing video of the juvenile Alewife run in the Gaspereau River. Sam’s Masters research has employed multi antenna PIT tag systems in order to track the movement of fish - the PIT tags provide information on speed and direction of passage as well as insight on restrictions by fish passage imposed by fishways. His work has largely been carried out on the Amherst Marsh, and in partnership with Ducks Unlimited Canada.  This project is serving as a major step towards evaluating fish passage across fishways for many fresh water and diadromous species.
