It’s tough, but somebody has to do it! Acadia Honours student, Madeline Sutton, spent part of the summer observing Tree Swallows

Acadia researcher Dave Shutler supervised Honours student Madeline Sutton who spent the summer in apple orchards, observing Tree Swallows.  Madeline actually graduated with a BScH in May 2014, but returned to work with her supervisor again this summer to supplement and refine her study results.  Her research involves understanding if Tree Swallow parents "choreograph" their feedings to deter predation. “Team Shutler” studies reproductive biology of Tree Swallows relative to parasites, pesticide use, and other ecological conditions in orchards around Wolfville.  For more information on Dr. Shutler’s research, visit: http://www.acadiau.ca/~dshutler/PRes
