Derek Charke is a JUNO and ECMA award-winning composer and flutist. He has been commissioned by world-renowned artists including the Kronos Quartet, Toronto Symphony, Winnipeg Symphony, Symphony Nova Scotia, St. Lawrence String Quartet, and cellist Jeffrey Zeigler, as well as an impressive list of other performers and organizations.


Project Summary for 25.55 Funding:

To release a commercial CD on Centrediscs (Toronto) entitled “In Sonorous Falling Tones”.

The CD will feature four of Dr. Derek Charke’s original works, including a new chamber flute concerto, performed by Dr. Charke himself, plus an original ensemble work that features The WIRED! Ensemble—a professional ensemble consisting of teaching faculty from Acadia’s School of Music and performers from Symphony Nova Scotia,  including: Mark Hopkins,  conductor; Derek Charke, flutes;  Eileen Walsh, clarinets;  Gillian Smith, violin; Susan  Sayle, viola; Norman Adams,  cello; Max Kasper, bass; Simon Docking, piano; and Mark Adam, percussion.
