Dr. Campbell has taught Writing by Women, Creative Writing, and Editing at Acadia since 1999. She serves as Creative Writing Coordinator for the English Department.
Dr. Campbell's 25.55 award will fund travel to present papers at two conferences in and near Melbourne Australia in February 2017. The paper “Something Old and Something New: Comic Subversion in Short Stories by L.M. Montgomery and Margaret Atwood” will be presented at the 23rd Australasian Humour Studies Network Conference hosted by the University of Sydney, at the School of Mines Ballarat (SMB) campus on 1-3 February 2017.
A second paper, “The Visible Human: The (Bio)Medical Body in the Poetry of Anne Simpson” will be presented at “The Anatomy of the Image: Perspectives on the (Bio) Medical Body in Science, Literature, Culture and Politics.” Monash University, in Melbourne, 16-18 February 2017.
Both papers build on Dr. Campbell's past research, refereed publications, and conference presentations in the area of Humour Studies and Canadian Women Writers.
The funding will help to extend her research, publishing, and pedagogical mandate of bringing the work of Canadian (and more specifically Atlantic) women writers to the attention of the scholarly community both across Canada and internationally. In addition, both papers reflect an increasing interdisciplinarity in her research.
