Meet our Innovacorp Voucher Winners: Sustainable Blue!
Sustainable Blue (SFFC) is a land-based aquaculture company raising both exotic and native species of fish in NS, using their own innovative recirculation technology. Concerned about husbandry methods that have a negative health and stress impact on their fish, the company has been working with Acadia University researcher, Dr. Brian Wilson (Department of Biology) on examining stress levels in salmon when they are transferred into their facility as smolt, and transferred between holding tanks at later stages of growth. SFFC wants to extend their health assessment tools to guide the development of optimal stocking density farming methods. In this Tier II Voucher project, Dr. Wilson is expanding his research program, collecting blood samples that will be used to non-invasively assess fish stress, immunocompetence and fat content.
