Pop Culture World Politics Conference at Acadia

The 2018 Popular Culture and World Politics Conference, “After the Cultural Politics of Popular Worlds,” will be held at Acadia University from August 10-12th in the KC Irving Centre. This international conference, organized by the Department of Politics, brings together scholars to explore the inter-text between popular culture and the unfolding of world political events.

The Acadia community is welcome to join conference activities free of charge. There will be a Friday evening film screening with discussion to follow at 5 pm in the KC Irving Centre Auditorium. The conference includes a keynote titled “The Phenomenology of Belief: Media Technologies and Communities of Sense” by celebrated political theorist and writer Dr. Michael Shapiro (University of Hawaii) at 6 pm on Saturday in the KC Irving Centre Auditorium.

A full weekend of engaging panel presentations include topics such as:

  • "The Performative Politics of Brewing and Drinking Beer"
  • "Administering Inuit Creativity in the Canadian Academy"
  • "Saturday Night Live and the Political Bubble"
  • "(Re)Coding Indigenous Futurities"
  • "The European Refugee Crisis in Public Imagination"
