Research on analyzing human movement underway in Acadia’s new John MacIntyre mLAB

Dr. Scott Landry is the Director of the new John MacIntyre mLAB (motion Laboratory of Applied Biomechanics) that will be analyzing human movement to better understand sporting injuries, knee osteoarthritis, and the impact of physical activity on the prevention of chronic disease.

The current research focus is on preventing devastating non-contact anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in sports such as soccer, basketball, rugby, volleyball and football.

BKinH students, Kendal Steele, Michelle Jones and Hannah Price have been out on Raymond Field collecting data with the data acquisition equipment, comparing muscle activation patterns of the lower limb muscles in pre and post-pubescent soccer players as they perform unanticipated side-cutting maneuvers.

The mLAB has been funded by CFI, NSRIT and a family friend of former Acadia varsity soccer player, John MacIntyre.
